Rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs will not face felony charges after he allegedly assaulted a coach with a kettlebell at the university where his son plays football.

Combs was arrested last month on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and one count of battery after an altercation with a football coach at the UCLA training complex, according to The Los Angeles Times

Ricardo Santiago, a representative of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, said on Thursday that the prosecutors declined to charge the record producer with felony assault and battery and that the case has been handed over to the Los Angeles City Attorney's office to determine whether or not Combs' conduct amounts to a misdemeanor charge.

"We are thankful that the district attorney rejected felony charges in this matter. This case never should have been part of the criminal justice system to begin with," Mark Geragos, the attorney representing Mr. Combs, said on Thursday, CNN reported.

A representative for Combs claimed earlier that the rapper acted in self defense and called the accounts of the incident "wholly inaccurate."

"Any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son," the representative said in a statement last month. "We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed."
