The true-life thriller "Triple Frontier" has languished in development limbo for years. Back in 2009, Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty") was attached to direct from a screenplay by Mark Boal, but that quickly fell apart. Ever since, "Triple Frontier" has floated from one place to another. Now, it may finally be gaining some traction.

Actors Will Smith and Tom Hanks are both circling lead roles in the movie with new director J.C. Chandor ("A Most Violent Year") set to helm the project, according to Deadline. While Smith and Hanks have been linked to the film for some time now, the duo appears to still be interested in making it happen.

"Triple Frontier," originally titled "Sleeping Dogs," will still be based on the Boal screenplay and is set in South America. The title refers to the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, known as one of the most dangerous areas in the world. Should Hanks and Smith move forward with the project, they will likely be joined by some other big names as the script has five main characters. Still, getting both actors involved would add some serious star power.

It is unclear at this point if the interest and optimism will translate to actual production. Both actors have very busy schedules. Hanks has been mentioned as the likely lead in a Clint Eastwood-directed biopic about hero pilot Capt. 'Sully' Sullenberger and the tech-thriller "The Circle" with Emma Watson. Smith, meanwhile, is still shooting "Suicide Squad" and may head straight into production for "Bad Boys 3" after it wraps. Hopefully, both actors can find time for this resonant and impactful film.
