A teenage boy is the latest victim of a shark attack in North Carolina, the second such incident in just as many days and the sixth attack over the last couple of weeks, according to officials, reported CBS News.

Authorities attended to the 17-year-old boy, who suffered injuries to his right leg, buttocks and both hands while he was swimming on the Outer Banks on Saturday, according to a statement released by the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Facebook Page. The boy received treatment at the scene before he was airlifted to a hospital in Norfolk, Va. for further care. The teenager was brought to the hospital in critical condition, but his condition has since then improved, according to the Associated Press.

"There are many inherent dangers while swimming in ocean or sound waters," the statement read. "Swimmers are advised to be aware of conditions and their surroundings."

On Friday, a 47-year-old North Carolina man suffered injuries on his back and right leg after was bitten by a shark while swimming with his children in Avaon, N.C. On the same day, another man, 43, was attacked by a shark in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Both men received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Sharks have attacked several children along North Carolina's coastline recently. Last week, an 8-year-old boy was injured in a shark attack in Surf City and two other kids lost their limbs in separate, back-to-back attacks in Oak Island on June 14.
