As of now, "Man of Steel" is the shaky foundation on which the DC Cinematic Universe is built. But Warner Bros. is hoping that next year's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" will prop up their growing world for fans of DC Comics. Working in their favor is the inclusion of Ben Affleck as Batman, one of the most popular and profitable superheroes of all time. "Dawn of Justice" will surely try to capitalize on the character's popularity by showcasing him prominently in next year's film. In fact, "Dawn of Justice" may even delve into Batman's past.

A recent set photo revealed a framed painting of someone thought to be Bruce Wayne's father, Thomas Wayne. Interestingly, the portrait bore a striking resemblance to actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who comic book fans may know as The Comedian in Snyder's "Watchmen" film adaptation).

During an interview of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Morgan was asked point blank if he had a role in the film. While the actor did not confirm or deny this, he did hint that the portrait was of him.

"Dawn of Justice" has a lot going on. The movie has to introduce Batman along with Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash to the DCCU. It has to lead into the "Justice League" movies and it also has to build upon "Man of Steel." So even if Morgan does play a role as Thomas Wayne, it's likely a limited one. But it's interesting that Snyder has chosen to possibly go with Batman-centric flashbacks like Christopher Nolan did in "Batman Begins." Some fans may view this as recycling old material while others may be excited by the idea of Bruce Wayne character development.

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit theaters in March of 2016.
