A 30-year-old Rhode Island native underwent a $2,500 buttock augmentation that almost cost her life.

Sophelay Ouk became seriously ill when the silicon injections from a cheap butt injection poisoned her veins and lungs. She had to get more surgeries at a Manhattan hospital to save her, according to the New York Daily News.

The doctors said that two things most likely went wrong: her injections were contaminated, or her body rejected the substance. Her body suffered "repeated infection" the report said, as it fought the silicon injections.

"You can't put foreign material in the human body," said Dr. Tansar Mir, who saved Ouk from the procedure by removing the silicon.

Ouk apparently got her augmentation from a "clinic" that was only set up in a house and not a proper hospital. In her wanting to obtain a sexier bottom like J-Lo or Kim Kardashian, Ouk thought she could trust the doctor who did her butt injections for rock bottom prices.

Buttock augmentation is the latest cosmetic procedure that's gaining popularity. From 2013 to 2014, the demand for butt implants increased by at least 98 percent, according to CNN. The average cost for the procedure in a legitimate plastic surgery clinic starts at $4,500. This still doesn't include the cost for use of facilities and operating room expenses.

"I wasn't ready to dish out $10,000 or $20,000 for a Brazilian butt lift," said Ouk. A friend recommended the $2,500 butt injections a certain Dr. David could deliver, so she got an appointment.

On her first visit, Ouk saw the results instantly. But on following visits, things went literally downhill for her. When she started to complain to her doctor, she was advised not to go to a hospital. But her trip to the emergency room was inevitable since she experienced shortness of breath, unusual heartbeat and dizziness.

Now a whole lot better, Ouk said that the doctor who almost killed her has gone missing. His clinic has since been emptied out.

Her case isn't the only butt implant surgery that has gone wrong. A woman from Maryland also died after an illegal butt augmentation procedure in New York, according to Live Science.

The rest who have opted to get butt implants from underground clinics are ticking time-bombs, said Mir. "All of them are going to have problems one day," the doctor told CNN. Complications could crop up even after 20 years.

"If you're going to pay $2,500 for a plastic surgery procedure, you're going to get what you pay for," Ouk cautioned.
