Character actor and Hollywood veteran Tony Longo has died at the age of 53.

Longo passed away in his sleep at his home in Marina del Rey, Calif. according to his manager Susan Ferris of talent management company Bohemia Group. Ferris said she was notified of his death this past Sunday, The Hollywood Reporter reported

Born in New Jersey, the six-foot-six, 300-pound actor began his 30-year career in TV and film in the 1980s, shortly after relocating to California. He got his break with a recurring role in the hit TV show "Alice," according to his IMDb biography. Known in Hollywood as the "big guy", Longo would go on to appear in the John Hughes teen cult film "16 Candles," the Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick "Eraser," and the romantic comedy "How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days." His TV credits include "Police Academy," "Six Feet Under," and "Monk."

Ferris said that when the staff at Bohemia Group met Longo, they instantly fell in love with his charm and charisma, according to Deadline Hollywood. She also said the team has fond memories of Longo.

"He had the excitement and willingness to do anything. There is some comfort in knowing that he died peacefully in his sleep," Ferris said. "Hollywood has lost a great actor."
