Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, has landed his first major film role. The actor, 21, will star opposite Bella Thorne, 17, in "Midnight Sun," a remake of the popular Japanese YA (young adult) film of the same name released in 2006, according to Deadline.

Deadline also reports that Scott Speer will direct the film with a script written by Eric Kirsten.

Thorne will play Katie, a sheltered girl who cannot go outside because she suffers from a rare disease that makes her allergic to sunlight. Schwarzenegger will play Katie's love interest, Charlie, as he and Katie embark on a summer romance. Filming is set to begin in September, but there is no release date yet.

Shriver was one of the first to congradulate her son, tweeting, "Congrats to @PSchwarzenegger! So exciting. Hard work pays off."

Schwarzenegger has had a number of supporting role's including "Grown Ups 2" and "Stuck in Love." He can next be seen in the coming-of-age drama "Dear Eleanor" and "Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse," according to Yahoo! Movies
