The Sully Sullenberger biopic has found its heroic pilot in actor Tom Hanks. The "Captain Phillips" star is in talks with Warner Brothers Studios to play Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, according to Deadline.

Sullenberger became an American hero in 2009 when he had to make an emergency landing of U.S. Airways flight 1549 on the Hudson River after taking off from La Guardia Airport. Minutes into the flight, a flock of geese hit the plane he was piloting and disabled both engines. Sullenberger saved all 155 passengers aboard the plane who were famously photographed huddled together on the wings of the plane waiting for rescue.

The motion picture will be directed by iconic director Clint Eastwood fresh off of "American Sniper," and the screenplay will be written by Todd Komarnicki who wrote "Perfect Stranger" and "Elf." The screenplay will be based off of Sullenberger's autobiography "Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters."

Hanks is a two-time Academy Award-winning actor for "Philadelphia" and "Forrest Gump," and has been nominated for the award five times. He has been in iconic movies such as "Big," "Saving Private Ryan" and "Toy Story." Hanks, 58, can be seen next in "Bridge of Spies," which comes out in October.
