After two years in the making, imaging technology leader DxO has launched DxO One; a small camera that connects to an iPhone and allows users to enhance the already satisfying iPhone photography experience, reported Mashable.

The One boasts of a 20-megapixel one-inch sensor, the same one Sony used in the RX100, which captures images and video with a crispness and resolution not many smartphones can match. The camera also has an F1.8 lens, manual exposure controls, a top shutter speed of 1/8000 of a second and a few other RAW-shooting modes.

There's no optical zoom on the camera and the lens has a fixed focal length of 32mm, however the 20-megapixel sensor should allow enough room to crop and enlarge images, according to Wired.

The camera, priced at $599, is less than three inches in height, weighs approximately four ounces and can easily fit into your breast pocket. The device can be used as a standalone camera, but it does not come equipped with a viewfinder. Once the DxO software has been installed, the iPhone will recognize the camera as soon as it's connected, launch the app and turn the display into a touchscreen viewfinder for the DxO One. You can also swivel the camera while it's connected to the iPhone or iPad, allowing you to take pictures from different angles.

The company has already started taking pre-orders, and the product will start shipping this fall. There is a long list of mediocre third-party photography products available for the iPhone, but the DxO One is certainly a refreshing exception with its image quality and portable design, according to The Verge.
