After 17 years of marriage, country star Trace Adkins and his estranged wife are almost officially divorced.

"Rhonda and Trace made this decision together in the best interest of their family. All that remains is for the court to approve the agreements that have been executed by them both. An updated petition seeking such Court approval will be filed in the coming days," the singer's lawyer, Larry Hayes Jr., told E! News.

Rhonda filed for divorce back in March 2016 citing irreconcilable differences in the divorce papers. In 2014, Adkins went to a rehab facility to seek treatment for alcoholism. The singer has been battling his addiction for over two decades and even entered an in-patient treatment program in 2001.

In Adkins' initial divorce filing, she asked for primary residential custody of the couple's three daughters and requested the singer pay child support, all her legal fees, and that Adkins maintains health insurance for herself and their children. The exact terms of the private settlement are still unknown.

The singer has been a star in the country music world since the mid 1990s and appeared in the seventh season of "Celebrity Apprentice" in 2013.
