A woman walking her dog found a 2-year-old girl dead in a shallow ravine in the woods of a Pittsburgh suburb. The toddler's body is believed to have been placed there, as it was too far for her to walk on her own, said a police official Monday, adding that authorities are investigating the case as a homicide, reported ABC News.

The infant, Adrionna Williams, who would have turned 3 next month, was found in a nearby suburb approximately 40 minutes after her family reported her missing on Sunday.

There were no clear signs of trauma, apart from a slight abrasion on her face, said Swissvale Police Chief Greg Geppert, one of the first officers on the scene. "We're as curious as everybody else to try to get it solved," he said, according to the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette. "It's very upsetting to us."

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy on Monday. However, details regarding the cause and manner of death will only be known after further tests have been carried out, according to the Associated Press.

Police have not yet identified or charged any suspects. Friends and family members are being questioned, as investigators try to make sense of Williams' last few hours alive and find out what transpired in the time between her disappearance and the discovery of her body.
