Polish officials have revealed that they are currently in talks with the U.S. about Washington possibly storing heavy weapons on Polish soil, following the rise of tensions between Russia and the Ukraine.

Tomasz Siemoniak, defense minister of Poland, said the ongoing negotiations are part of the plan to boost U.S.  military presence in Poland as well as other eastern European countries that are NATO members, according to Agence France-Presse.

Siemoniak added that he has had discussions with U.S. defense secretary Ashton Carter about the deployment of U.S. military personnel and weaponry.

The U.S. military has been carrying out massive drills with some eastern European members of NATO in the midst of Russia's role in the conflict with Ukraine, the BBC reported.

Siemoniak tweeted in Polish: "Decisions are near," which also confirmed a report from the New York Times about the Pentagon possibly storing heavy weaponry and battle vehicles for as many as 5,000 American troops in Baltic and eastern European countries.
