It looks like Zayn Malik of the British boyband One Direction, singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran and Johnny Depp are all teaming up to record music together, according to The Inquisitr, the surprising trio recently photographed hanging out in a recording studio in L.A.

While Depp is better known for his work on the silver screen, he's been known to dabble in music as well. He's played slide guitar on the Oasis songs "Fade In-Out" and "Fade Away," acoustic guitar in the 2000 movie "Chocolat" in which he starred, and provided acoustics for the soundtrack for his 2003 film "Once Upon a Time In Mexico." Depp has also worked with a number of other artists, including Alice Cooper, The Black Keys, Aerosmith and his good friend Marilyn Manson. While Malik and Sheeran are known for their softer styles of music, we're excited to learn what these three will do when they get together.

Fans are already speculating on whether or not they're working on a number of new songs, creating some sort of strange band, or maybe even just happened to be in the studio with each other at the same time.

Malik posted the photo of the trio, while Sheeran recently tweeted: "Finished the @RudimentalUk session for today, back in tomorrow. Now off to make music with one of my favourite artists..."

Then again, Sheeran could be referring to rapper The Game, whom he recently collaborated with. "Just made a CLASSIC record with the homie Ed Sheeran... One of the dopest," he tweeted.

As for One Direction, they've just released their new single "Best Song Ever," and their latest movie "This Is Us!," an autobiographical documentary on their journey to superstardom, will hit theaters Aug. 30.
