A car exploded in a roundabout (traffic circle) in Gothenburg, Sweden, killing one person and injuring at least four others on Friday, while an explosion in Malmo earlier in the day injured two people.

One of four or five people inside the car was pronounced dead at the scene in the district of Torslanda and another was taken to a hospital, police spokeswoman Camilla Fogelhamre said, according to the Associated Press.

The car exploded in the afternoon in a roundabout near a fire station and was completely destroyed, said rescue spokesman Bosse Andersson, according to the AP.

A nearby driver saw the car's roof fly up into the air when it exploded. "When I came up to the car, I saw that it must have been a bomb. It was completely torn apart, the front part of the engine and everything was gone," said Janne Wolltin, according to AFP. The witness also saw another driver dousing the flames.

Details about the victims and the cause of the explosion are not yet available as the investigation is still ongoing. The area was blocked off as investigators examined the wreckage.

The explosion in Sweden's second largest city came hours after an explosion in the southern city of Malmo that injured a newspaper delivery man and a pedestrian.

The Malmo incident took place around 3:30 a.m. in the suburb of Södra Sofielund, close to the city center and Skåne University Hospital, said police, according to The Local.

The explosion followed a street brawl involving 10 to 20 people on Thursday night, said witnesses. The injured people, however, were not involved in the melee, said police.

The explosion was the second in Malmo since February, when a car blast shattered windows at the city's Museum of Modern Art.

In January, an explosion outside an apartment occurred, but there were no injuries.
