In the most adorable gathering ever, more than 222 golden retrievers congregated at The Golden Retriever Club of Scotland to celebrate the beautiful breed in July.

The club hosted the event for the dogs and their owners at the breed's ancestral home Guisachan House.

"The golden retrievers were returning to the Highlands house where they were first bred by a man named Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, later known as Lord Tweedmouth, in the mid-1800s." the Christian Posts reports. "The huge doggy bash including various activities and festival-like events including hurling, a tug-of-war, and of course the main event - a dog show."

Golden Retrievers are reportedly the third most popular family dog breeds in the United States.

The adorable golden gathering is a sight to see, but it won't tug at your heartstrings like the world's most ugliest dog competition.

The 25th annual competition was held at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, Calif. on June 21.

"It started as a homegrown kind of contest - very small and quirky," contest organizer Vicki DeArmon told TODAY.com. "But the whole thing has accelerated beyond anyone's wildest imaginings."

The competition featured more than 25 dogs and gathered thousands of spectators. Contestants take the competition very seriously, knowing three panelists will score the dogs based on shock factor, audience reaction, unusual attributes and attitude.

"Does the dog strut across the stage? Does the dog look longingly off at a bone? They're looking at what kind of things give them personality," DeArmon said.

This year's title went to a four-year-old mutt mix, part beagle, basset and boxer named Walle. (Click here for photo)

"This dog looked like he's been photo shopped with pieces from various dogs and maybe a few other animals," said Judge Brian Sobel in a news release.

Walle and his owner walked away with a trophy and the $1,500 grand prize.
