As a strong response to the test, the United States and South Korea also conducted a joint ballistic missile drill. On Tuesday, North Korea successfully tested its first ever intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that has been newly developed. According to reports from Reuters, the ballistic missile has the capacity to carry large nuclear weapons that are heavy. Notably, the test was conducted under the supervision of North Korea leader, Kim Jong Un and the ICBM can scale a distance of 6700 km, posing a threat to the security of the United States. Moreover, a news agency of North Korea stated that Kim Jong Un has said that with the test being done successfully, the country will not participate in any talks with the United States, nor will it give up the weapons till hostile policy that the United States has towards North Korea is changed. Notably, the ICBM is a part of the country's strategic weapon capability that also includes hydrogen and atomic bombs. Watch video In similar reports, it has been said that following North Korea's ICBM test, South Korea and the United States joined hands to respond to the test with a ballistic missile drill, Mail Online reported. An official statement from the South Korean and the US officials stated, "Eighth U.S. Army and Republic of Korea (ROK) military personnel conducted a combined event exercising assets countering North Korea's destabilizing and unlawful actions on July 4." It must be mentioned that Rex Tillerson, the United States Secretary of States, has confirmed that the ICBM tested on Tuesday by North Korea poses a threat to the security of the United States as it can hit Alaska and also the world. Notably, previous assessments done by the United States and Russia had suggested that the missile would be an intermediate-range missile, however, post the test, it confirmed the missile to be ICBM.
