How to Maintain Your Clout

Social media influencing has become the next big thing on the internet. From TikTok, YouTube to Twitch, and Instagram. You name it; these sites are the top most used platforms to be on the internet spotlight. A lot of people who often get into this niche are people who want to promote their own business. Some of them are people who want to showcase their hobbies, like gamers and product reviewers. Others are people who want to have clout and be in the limelight. But how do you build an audience, and how do you prepare for it? Here are some tips for building your social media presence.

1. Put yourself out there

Putting yourself out there is the crucial step to getting started. If you're that kind of person who owns a social media account to lurk, that will not bring you engagements. Instead, try using it more to post content. Start posting! Let the platform know that you exist.

2. Create your brand

Let's say you want to be a gamer or a YouTuber. The best way to start is by creating a dedicated account for your nickname or stage name. What do you want to be known for? How do you want people to call you? This can help you distinguish your private life from your social media presence. This can also be useful if you want to start anew. Some people, for example, who are now in corporate positions that wish to keep their social media presence end up creating a "professional use" only account.

3. Gear up

People who want to venture into the world of becoming streamers often showcase their thing in gaming. Of course, you also got to have your own aesthetic and powerful gaming set-up. These days, there are dedicated laptops for gaming, or you could be one of those who prefer to build their customizable PCs. If you're going to stream, you also have to gear up with a good microphone set-up, a camera, and if you're feeling extra fancy, consider getting those LED strip lights to spice up your background.

4. Be Relevant

Stay updated on the new trends to stay relevant to your audience. Not only that, take part in those trends. It can help you get more engagements and clout. Maintaining your social presence often has to do with staying relevant all the time. If you're mostly on social media like TikTok, trendy posts are likely to get the most attention and exposure. If you're a gamer, talking about a game that's hot in the community or streaming your gameplay on it can attract viewers. If you're a YouTuber who does reviews, reviewing the latest products or shows can also get you more views.

If you don't know where to keep yourself updated, Twitter is one of the best platforms for keeping yourself up-to-date with the latest trends and happenings.

5. Interact with your audience

Building clout is not a one-way road. You also have to interact with your audience. It can take the form of Ask Me Anything, replying to comments, giving shoutouts, or creating giveaway campaigns. This way, your followers will stay engaged with you and are more likely to tune in for your content.

6. Don't be boring

This tip is a no-brainer. Create content people will want to see and something that is not boring. Don't be afraid to experiment and sometimes be goofy. Most of the time, people follow content creators they can relate to and those down to earth. Sometimes people want to see something different. Again, don't be boring; be versatile.

7. Don't be a clout chaser

Sure, one way of getting clout and that media attention is to become a clout chaser. AKA someone who will do anything and everything regardless if it's good or bad to get clout. Do not do that. Spreading problematic content may get you the attention. However, it's not something the internet needs. Plus, it can get you in trouble for doing that too, and you risk yourself from getting banned and canceled in the long run.

Building social media presence can be a lot of work if you're starting from nothing. But, it's not impossible to gain influence. In the end, influence is something you acquire after building your brand and personality online.

Don't worry if you feel like you're going to accumulate haters or negativity. Take note that almost everyone on the internet will always get some negative feedback thrown at them. So take it easy and keep doing what you do, be yourself, and enjoy the limelight.
