At least five people, including an eight-month-old baby, were rescued from a life raft three hours after a plane crash in the Bahamas.

The light crash occurred late Monday, and the survivors were found in good health, officials said, NBC News reported.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) said that the single-engine Cessna departed from Crooked Island and crashed in the waters near New Providence, southeast of Nassau, shortly before sunset.

The RBDF searched the area with a patrol boat assisted by a U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and was able to rescue all the passengers of the small plane.

"At approximately 10:20 p.m, the watchstanders at the command center received a report from the aircrew aboard the MH-60 aircraft that they located the five people floating on a life raft approximately nine nautical miles southeast of Nassau," the Coast Guard said in a news release.

The plane had five Bahamanians on board, namely the pilot, Anthiqueko Gibson, 26, and passengers Lorenzo Moss, 47, Autoria Moss, 27, Andre Gibson, 22, and Andrew Gibson, eight months.

Information about the cause of the crash is not yet available.
