Some more plot details for "American Horror Story: Coven" have been released. Recently show creator Ryan Murphy did a panel for Emmy voters where he spilled the juicy and frightening plot details of what viewers can expect during the third season, Celebuzz reports.

It had previously been revealed that "Coven" would span several time periods, take place across different locations and the show would focus on witchcraft and voodoo in New Orleans, which is going to be its main setting.

Murphy had also dished on some of the characters saying that Kathy Bates' character would be "five times worse than [her Oscar winning] Misery character" and would also be an enemy of Jessica Lange's' "real glamour cat sort of a lady" character.

What fans didn't know was the plot details and the focus of the new season. During the panel Murphy spilled some of the details hinting that the upcoming season will focus on Salem witches versus voodoo witches. Lange's character, Fiona, will be the leader of the Salem group while Angela Bassett has signed on to play Marie Laveau, who is the leader of the voodoo side, Celebuzz reports.

"The witches of Salem, the smart ones, got out very early and they were none of the ones who were burned. They all gravitated toward New Orleans, where they now live, and every generation has a great witch who has the most powers of them all, and that's called the Supreme. Ms. Jessica Lange is the Supreme," Murphy said.

Bassett's character is based off a real-life "voodoo queen of New Orleans" who ruled from the 1820 to the 1860s.

"It really is about the witches of Salem pitted against voodoo witches," Murphy explained at the panel Vulture magazine reports. "It's been a centuries-long feud and it's up to Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett to mend the fence."

Another real-life portrayal is going to be Kathy Bates character, Madame LaLaurie, who was a real life serial killer. Murphy describes her as "the most evil woman ever," Vulture reports. LaLaurie tortured and killed slaves for several years in her mansion until a fire broke out in the kitchen. According to reports firefighters found her cook chained to a stove while an upstairs bedroom housed slaves who had been tortured and bound.

It sounds the new season is going to be as just frightening and scary as the others but Murphy also revealed that "Coven" will be a little lighter than the last season.

"It's much more buoyant and comedic and crafty than last season, which was much darker by design because it was about a high school rival of Lange's characters."
