Ever since Nicki Minaj posted a photo of a heart shaped diamond ring to Instagram, the Internet has been on fire with assumptions that she and rapper boyfriend Meek Mill got engaged.

But Us Weekly has learned otherwise.

In Meek Mill's new cover story for the magazine about "The Fader," he came clean about the couple's status, explaining that the 15-carat diamond ring was simply a gift – not an engagement ring. 

"It's definitely real," the rapper told them about his relationship with Minaj, sat through most of the interview with Mills. "But it ain't really time to get married yet. We're still learning each other, feeling each other out."

Even Rapper T.I. – a huge mentor to Mill – was confused. When he saw the couple at a restaurant recently, he congratulated them on their engagement. "I ain't engaged," replied Mill.

"You never asked her, 'Will you be my girlfriend?' But she is your girlfriend," T.I. responded. "You may not have asked her, 'Will you marry me?' But you are engaged...I've said my part, as long as you know what's going on."

It turns out Mill's grandma is just as media obsessed as the rest us. After spotting the Instagram post, she too believed the couple was engaged.

"Whatever she sees on TV, she believes," Mill said.

The newest issue of "The Fader" with the full interview will hit newsstands June 30.
