Juan Pablo Montoya of Columbia became a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner defeating Australia's Will Power and New Zealand's Scott Dixon leading over the tension-packed final laps.

Earlier in the game, Montoya fell back to 30th place when his car's rear wing was damaged but recovered and overtook Penske Racing teammate Will Power for the remaining three laps.

"This is what IndyCar is all about, awesome racing all the way down to the wire," Montoya told BBC News. "I don't even know what to say. This is too good."

Following his win, while flanked by Team Penske President Tim Cindric, Montoya briefly said how much the victory meant to him.

"I'm glad I am proving them right, that they made the right choice," he said, pausing and lowering his eyes, as reported by Fox Sports. "I'm loving racing right now."

Montoya, Power and Dixon secured the top three spots several times in a wild final 15 laps of the race. For the final laps, Power then got the second spot, Charlie Kimball third, Dixon fourth and Graham Rahal finished fifth, according to USA Today.

Montoya, 39-years-old, last won the Indy in 2000 for the 200-lap 2.5-mile race before spending six years in Formula 1 and eight years in Nascar.
