A man found skeletal remains while snorkeling in the Colorado River near the Arizona and California border.

After his discovery, he called the Arizona authorities, who immediately went on a hunt for the remains, together with divers from the Buckshin Fire Department, ABC News reports.

Amidst the heightened alert, everyone was surprised and relieved to find out that the "skeletal remains" that were found underwater, seated in lawn chairs, turned out to be fake skeletons. La Paz County Sheriff's Office described them to be seated like they were having a tea party.

"I don't think they were trying to set up anything to scare anyone. I think they were gonna try to be funny," said Lt. Curtis Bagby, according to ABC News. He added that he thought the sign could be a reference to the movie "Weekend at Bernie's."

When asked about the false alarm, the police officer said these situations are a part of a first-responder's life and they have responded to a lot of false alarms before. The key is to not make a big deal about it.

The divers will recover the skeletons sometime this week, Bagby added, saying he's considering placing them outside the sheriff's office as a joke, according to Fox News. Though people are finding it funny, Bagby made it clear that it is not OK to play such pranks.
