Miracle the newborn kitten was found in the rubble alive and well after surviving a fire that completely destroyed an apartment complex in Indiana.

The kitten is living up to his name, as the fire killed at least seven other cats and chased 48 families out of the building, reported ABC News.

Miracle was discovered one day after the fire by by Capt. Rusty Hall of the Jeffersonville Fire Department.

"Twenty-four hours later, me and my partner, Rex Caldwell, we went back to look for equipment and, more or less, checking out the building to make sure there was no hidden hot spots," Hall told ABC News. "It just so happened that we looked over and seen something yellow sitting on the ground. I had hollered for Rex and I said, 'Is that what I think it is?'"

The firefighters were having trouble contacting Miracle's humans, so they brought him to the J.B Ogle Animal Shelter where he is being cared for.

"Kittens are very fragile at that age, plus the smoke inhalation," Sara Green, director of the animal shelter, told Jeffersonville Indiana after seeing Miracle for the first time. "I don't know how in the world this thing survived."

If Miracle's human doesn't come forward to claim the kitten he will be adopted by Hall - the firefighter who saved his life.
