Hugh Jackman recently debuted in the latest film in the X-Men franchise "The Wolverine." The story follows the indestructible mutant with metal claws as he's summoned to Japan by an old acquaintance. The hero soon finds himself trapped in a vicious conflict that forces him to confront his own daemons as a mortal for the first time in his life.

Actor Hugh Jackman has played a super hero longer than any of the other actors in the Marvel franchsie, including Robert Downey Jr. who has played wise-cracking super hero Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man in four movies.

"The Wolverine" marks Jackman's sixth time playing the role with a seventh on the horizon with "X-Men: Days of Future Past" right around the corner. In a recent interview with Fox News, Jackman was asked what it means to him to be the longest running movie super-hero.

"It means I didn't get the memo that I was meant to move on," the 44-year-old actor joked. "It means a lot, in all seriousness, I love this part. I've been around long enough in this business to know great parts like this don't come along very often and as long as the part continues to grow and the reason for doing is there and that continues to grow, and let's face it, that the audience still wants to see it, I don't see any reason to give it up. I'm having more fun now than ever."

Jackman apparently doesn't buy into the philosophy of many actors who play iconic roles that it's best to move on while you're on top and at the height of popularity. The news comes after Robert Downey Jr. expressed interest in leaving the Iron Man suit behind. However, he was able to reach a deal with Marvel and the studios to stay on board for at least two more "Avengers" movies.

What do you think? Should Jackman stay on as the iconic superhero? Or should he move on to other projects and give the new blood of the X-Men franchise a chance to shine? Tell us below.
