David Bowie has announced a stage production called "Lazarus" which will feature new songs composed by Bowie specifically for the show as well as reworked versions of his previous material.

"Lazarus" is based on the 1963 novel "The Man Who Fell To Earth" by Walter Tevis, according to a press release. It centers on the character of Thomas Jerome Newton, whom Bowie played in the 1976 film.

The new show will be put on by the New York Theatre Workshop and will debut this winter. It was written by Bowie and Enda Walsh and will be directed by Ivo Van Hoe.

Bowie has a long-standing reputation for taking on different personas as part of his musical performances, including Ziggy Stardust in the 1970s.
