Warning: This article contains possible spoilers for "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice"

Zack Snyder's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" is scheduled to hit theaters in a little under one year. Fans are beyond excited to see DC's two most popular and iconic heroes on the silver screen together. Yet the conflict between the two characters has been a source of much debate. After all, both of them are do-gooders. Why would they be fighting?

Initially, it was thought that Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne/Batman wanted to hold Henry Cavill's Clark Kent/Superman responsible for the destruction of Metropolis in "Man of Steel." However, Badass Digest is now reporting that it may be the other way around; Superman is the one who tracks Batman down in Gotham at the urging of none other than Lex Luthor.

BD did not offer any explanation as to why Superman was working with his sworn enemy (maybe Luthor presents himself as an ally at first?) but they did say he immobilizes the Batmobile with a single punch. Early rumors have painted this new iteration of Batman as a sort of urban legend that irks government officials to no end. In that sense, it would be realistic that the government would approach Superman with a mission of capturing a dangerous vigilante.

If these unconfirmed rumors turn out to be true, it would appear as if Snyder is drawing some inspiration from Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns." In that comic storyline, Superman and Batman are allies at first -- as opposed to the upcoming film, in which they start off as strangers -- before Superman is asked by the President to get control of the Batman situation. The ensuing fight scene is one of the most climactic in superhero history.

Will Snyder's storyline unfold in a similar manner?

"Batman V Superman" will be in theaters on March 25, 2016.
