Idris Elba is in early talks to star as the next "Star Trek" villain, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Star Trek 3" is in pre-production and the movie may cast Elba to go up against the crew of the Starship Enterprise. Details of his role are being kept under wraps.

The "Luther" star would join stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Simon Pegg, who are all reprising their roles from the first two installments. Justin Lin will direct the script written by Pegg and Doug Jung.

Elba currently stars in the film "The Gunman" opposite Al Pacino. He will reprise his "Thor" role, Heimdall, in the next Marvel movie, "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
