"Sharknado" is back with a sequel and the shark-spewing-tornado is headed for the Big Apple! According to US Weekly, a sequel to Syfy's thriller will be premiering in 2014 and will be set in New York City.

"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm - on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel," Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President of Programming and Original Movies for Syfy, said in a statement to US Weekly. "What we can guarantee is that 'Sharknado 2' will be lots of fun. We'll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn't want our fans to worry they wouldn't get their fill of more shark fin, fun next year."

To get fans excited about "Sharknado 2" the network has decided to start a Twitter contest asking the public to help them finish the title. Fans can tweet to @SyfyMovies using the hashtag #Sharknado with their suggestions, Mashable reports.

The original movie gained a lot of social media attention but didn't bring in the TV ratings like expected. According to Nielsen ratings, 1.4 million viewers watched the movie when it premiered on July 11. Just like the name suggests, the thriller is about a tornado that hits Los Angeles causing sharks to fall from the sky. "Sharknado" starred "American Pie" actress Tara Reid and Ian Ziering.

There's been no word whether Reid or Ziering will be returning for the sequel but the actress recently told TMZ that she would definitely be interested in doing a part two to the movie.

"Why not?" she said. "I'm just so glad that people saw the humor in it that I did... because it's hilarious. This movie was so ridiculous, you know? Like it's almost so bad that's it good."

Screenwriter Thunder Levin told Mashable that despite the low ratings they still believe the movie was a success.

"I measure success by whether the audience enjoyed it," Levin told Mashable. "We're just trying to create entertainment here, so if people are happy and they're having fun with it, then I'd say it's a success."

Fans also believe the movie "Sharknado" was a success. The movie's sequel is a trending topic on Twitter with hundreds of people posting about what the next movie should be named.
