The new NFL league year started with a boom for the Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams.

It was reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN that the Rams and Eagles agreed to a trade in the first few moments of the NFL free agency period that would send quarterback Sam Bradford to Philly and quarterback Nick Foles and draft-pick compensation to St. Louis.

Albert Breer of NFL.com followed up shortly thereafter, revealing that the "basic agreement between the Rams and Eagles includes a swap of picks this year and a conditional going to Philly next."

Bradford, the former first-overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, has dealt with significant injuries throughout the entire course of his NFL career. There's no denying that he has ample talent as he won Offensive Rookie of the Year, but he's never been able to combine that talent with enough health to stay on the field consistently.

He is slated to make $12.9 million with a $16.9 million cap hit in the final year of his rookie deal - per Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer, after the trade the Eagles are only on the hook for the base salary in cap numbers.

As Mike Sando of ESPN noted in the wake of the deal's announcement, Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur held the same position with the Rams when the team drafted Bradford there and helped him to his OROY award, so there's ample familiarity between coach and player.

Foles has also dealt with his share of injury issues in his short NFL career. The 26-year-old has appeared in seven, 13 and eight games in three seasons in the NFL.

He leaves Philly with a career 94.2 passer rating, with 6,753 yards passing and 46 touchdowns.
