Season five of FOX's hit musical comedy "Glee" just got a lot more glam.

Pop star and "American Idol" alum Adam Lambert will be joining the choir room cast next season, show creator Ryan Murphy confirmed.

"I'm thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee this fall," he tweeted.

There is no word yet on the character he'll be playing, but Lambert retweeted the message adding that he was "so excited," about his new spot on the show.

The casting scoop comes after much speculation that the 31-year-old singer, who finished in second place on the eighth season of "Idol," would be joining the reality show as a judge next season. With Lambert's new acting gig, sources tell E! News that it is "not looking likely," that he'll join the show, which cleared house of last season's judges Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey.

While Lambert may be enrolling in McKinley High's award-winning cast, many of the show's original cast members will not be returning as series regulars.

Mark Salling (Puck), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) and Amber Riley (Mercedes) will not be reprising their roles as regulars in season five, but may return for guest appearances, according to a TVLine report.

Jayma Mays, who plays guidance counselor and Glee director love interest, Emma Pillsbury, also has a questionable future with the show. She's been cast in "The Millers," a new CBS series featuring Will Arnett.

While some cast members are losing their spots, others are being promoted. Melissa Benoist (Marley), Jacob Artist (Jake), Becca Tobin (Kitty), Blake Jenner (Ryder), and Alex Newell (Unique), who joined that cast last season, have all been upgraded to series regulars.

"Glee" returns for season five this September.
