Ariel Camacho, a popular Mexican singer-songwriter, died in a car crash Wednesday outside of Sinaloa, Mexico. He was 22.

Billboard Magazine reported that the young recording artist was returning from a performance at a music festival, Carnaval de Mocorito. His car was reportedly speeding when it skidded off the road and ran into a drainage ditch about 3 a.m.

Camacho, who was the lead singer of the popular norteño group Los Plebes del Rancho, had been on tour promoting his most recent album, "El Karma." The police reported that two of the three other people in the car were also killed in the collision.

Camacho's death was confirmed by his DEL Records label on his social media account, along with posting videos in tribute to the late artist.

"My heart is broken by the loss of Ariel Camacho," Angel Del Villar, president and founder of DEL Records, said in the statement. "Ariel was like a son to me. I knew he was going to transform the genre in Mexico and the United States. Millions of people would have become fans and would have gotten to know the man I did. We send our condolences to the families of all those involved in the accident."

Camacho was born Jose Ariel Camacho Barraza and was known for his guitar skills.
