Marvel Comics revealed that "Darth Vader" #1 has already received more than 300K pre-orders, Comicbook.com reported. "Star Wars" #1, which was released by Marvel Comics earlier this month, is already 2015's top selling comic and the best-selling comic in the last 20 years, having sold over 1 million copies before its release.

"Darth Vader" #1 will be the first solo series for one of the most infamous baddies of the 20th century. The book is written by British scribe and artist, Kieron Gillen. Gillen collaborated in writing other Marvel titles like "Uncanny X-Men," "Thor" and "Iron Man." The issue is drawn by Salvador Larroca, who worked Marvel titles like, "X-Men" and "Iron Man." Gillen welcomed the idea of working with Larocca because of his proficiency in drawing machine-based characters, such as Iron Man.

"Darth Vader" #1 and #2, set to be released next month, will tell Vader's story after the Battle of Yavin where the Death Star was destroyed as depicted in the movie "Star Wars IV: A New Hope." Coincidentally, "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" was the first movie Gillen ever saw, and he will conclude Vader's comic book tale at the outset of "The Empire Strikes Back."

"It's a big story too. It's not just that I want to write Darth Vader. It's that I get to write this story of Darth Vader and it's all in canon," Gillen told Comic Book Resources. "As far as Lucasfilm is concerned, this is what happened."
