Yahoo will grab a corner of the technology beach blanket shared by Google and Microsoft when it brings 400 jobs to booming Playa Vista, Calif.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Internet company signed a lease at the new Collective campus. The space is about 130,000 square feet, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Yahoo Chief Financial Officer Ken Goldman said there is talent to choose from in the area, and the company likes the culture of Playa Vista. The move is expected to happen next fall.

Yahoo is just the latest company to join the growing  technology hub, located about five miles south of its previous Santa Monica office.

The area has been steadily growing and developing since the mid-1990s, when environmentally minded residents fought to minimize developer impact. Dreamworks was initially interested in setting up shop in the area now known as Silicon Beach but later decided against the move.

Since then, companies including Electronic Arts, Facebook and Microsoft opened regional offices in Playa Vista. Consumer electronics manufacturers Belkin and Internet name and database-keeper ICANN are based there.

Last month, Google acquired 12 acres of vacant land in the hub beside the hangar where Howard Hughes built his Spruce Goose.

Google is expected to consolidate its five offices into the buildable 900,000 square-foot Playa Vista space. The Menlo Park, Calif.-based company would likely lease the hangar as well, providing an additional 319,000 square feet.
