Sony revealed details on its SmartEyeglass concept smart eyewear Wednesday, the latest version having the ability to clip on to your regular eyeglasses.

The device, dubbed a Single-Lens Display Module, is designed to stay on the arms of a pair of glasses, and has a band that stretches around the back of the wearer's head to provide support, according to Digital Trends. Features include sensors and an OLED micro-display measuring 0.23 inches and presenting a 640 x 400 pixel resolution.

The clip-on feature serves as a second pair of eyewear in case you need to take your original glasses off while driving or attending a meeting.

Sony says developers who get software development kits (SDKs) can load apps onto the module and build a smartphone app that syncs with the device over Wi-Fi, PC Magazine reported. The Japanese tech giant plans on making the module useful in a variety of fields, including sports and work.

"This display module possesses the potential to enrich users' lives in a variety of ways," Sony said. "By simply attaching it to a pair of fashionable glasses, goggles, sunglasses, or other type of eyewear, you can instantly gain access to visual information that adds a level of convenience to your everyday life."

Sony says the micro-display will achieve a contrast ratio higher than 10,000:1, and additional features include an ARM Cortex-A7 processor, a 400 mAh battery, and support for Bluetooth 3.0 + High Speed and 802.11b/g/n, PC Magazine reported. The company also plans on letting developers pair the display module's communication specs with smartwatches and other technology.

The smart eyewear, currently going by the name "SmartEyeglass Attach," will appear at the Consumer Electronics Show from Jan. 6-9 in Las Vegas for smart tech fans to try out.
