It seems that the St. Louis Blues have decided to be proactive about their backup goaltender spot after the injury sustained to starter Brian Elliott moved Jake Allen into the top role.

"St. Louis Blues reached out to Brodeur's agent, Pat Brisson last night and discussions continued this morning to firm up the tryout," according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.

Brodeur will apparently join the team at practice, and the Blues will see how it goes and will proceed from there, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet Canada reported.

"Marty has agreed to come in and practice through early next week," St. Louis president of hockey operations and general manager, Doug Wilson, said via the team's Twitter account. "We will address the media at Friday's practice at Scottrade."

No promises have been made to Brodeur, but the team is expected to make a call on whether or not to sign him by mid-week, reported ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.

Brodeur, who appeared at last week's Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony, said that he's been staying in shape and was ready and willing for whatever offer would come.
