Miss Honduras 2014, Maria Jose Alvarado, disappeared just days before she was scheduled to compete in the Miss World pageant, and Honduran authorities are questioning four people in connection with Alvarado's possible whereabouts, AZ Central reported.

Plutarco Ruiz, one of the people detained, is dating Alvarado's sister, 23-year-old Sofia. She also went missing with Alvarado. The business owner of the location where the women disappeared from is also being held for questioning. He has not yet been identified.

"Initially we detained 10, but six have been released," police spokesman Lt. Joseph Coello said.

The two women were celebrating Ruiz's birthday at a spa in Santa Barbara when they disappeared four days ago and have not made contact with anyone since. There is no evidence of kidnapping yet, so the incident is being categorized as a disappearance.

"Witnesses said my daughter left the spa with three men," her mother, Teresa Munoz, said. "I tried repeatedly all night to call their cellphones without any response."

Alvarado had been spending time at home with her parents before embarking for the United Kingdom for the competition.

"Open your hearts and understand my pain," her mother said. "There is an all-powerful God that sees everything, and I hope you set them free."

On April 26, Alvarado took home the crown after defeating 18 other women. She is a student who hopes to work as a Honduran diplomat. The Miss World competition is expected to begin Thursday, according to Yahoo News.
