Timbaland Calls Lifetime Aaliyah Movie ‘Bulls—t’ and Mocks Film with Memes (PHOTOS)

Apparently, fans were not the only people upset over Lifetime's "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B" movie, which aired on Saturday.

Rapper and producer Timbaland, who worked closely with the late singer before her unexpected death in 2001, took to social media over the weekend to express his disapproval of the film, and referred to it as "bulls--t."

"This is why people should never remake movies. Bulls--t happens," he said in a short video posted on his Instagram account. "Now you have to deal with the consequences from me, Timbo, and the family..."

He also posted a snapshot of a post that read, "I think everyone musician portrayed in this Aaliyah movie should sue the hell out Lifetime movie for failure of accurate casting."

Along with urging fans not to tune into the Lifetime special, Timbaland posted a series of memes mocking the cast chosen to play the roles of Aaliyah, rapper Missy Elliot, singer R. Kelly and himself.

Aaliyah was played by Nickelodeon actress Alexandra Shipp, after former Disney starlet Zendaya Coleman dropped out of the project amid the criticisms. The film was also met with criticisms by the singer's parents, who did not approve of the film.

The Aaliyah biopic was meant to chronicle the star's life before her death. Fans bashed the network for romanticizing Aaliyah's illegal relationship with R. Kelly.
