A mother listened to the "voices in her head" that told her to throw her 6-year-old son off a famous Oregon bridge and killed the child.

Jillian McCabe, of Seal Rock, Ore., called 911 yesterday at 6:25 p.m. reporting that she threw her son off the Yaquina Bay Bridge, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The 6-year-old boy's body was found almost four hours later floating near a marina by the search crew that included police and firefighters in the coastal city of Newport, Lincoln County deputies and the Coast Guard, reports The Associated Press.

McCabe was found at the scene when authorities arrived. She later told police she allegedly heard voices telling her to throw the child off the bridge, reports USA Today.

"I feel really sorry for the family," Newport Police Chief Mark Miranda told USA Today. "Losing a kid isn't easy. It's one of these things you don't want to happen in your community."

McCabe was charged with aggravated murder, murder and first-degree manslaughter.
