After a media frenzy and four years in an Italian prison for the murder of her British roommate, Amanda Knox has found a career... as a journalist.

The 27-year-old Seattle native is the local arts and human interest writer for the West Seattle Herald, according to The Independent.

Knox finished her degree at the University of Washington this year and began as a freelance writer for the West Seattle Herald under a pen name. "We approached her originally to give her the opportunity of a normal life," Web editor Patrick Robinson told The Daily Beast. "We simply asked her as we would ask anyone of that age and stage, if they would be interested in writing for us as a qualified writer of that scale and this level of journalism."

After a few articles, Knox began to publish under her own byline.

"Amanda's a very bright, very capable, highly qualified writer," Robinson told The Daily Beast. "She's certainly been through a lot and been very easy to work with and very interested and eager."

Knox's ordeal began when she traveled to Italy to study creative writing. In November 2007, Meredith Kercher, Knox's roommate was found dead in the house they shared. Knox and her Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were found guilty of murder in 2009.

Knox spent four years in prison before being released, when independent experts cast doubt on the evidence used in the conviction.

Knox's appeal was overruled and in January 2014 she was sentenced in absentia to 28 years in an Italian prison, but has so far not been extradited. The sentence will likely not begin until the court signs off, which could be in the spring of 2015, according to The Daily Beast.
