The NCAA is investigating Syracuse University's football and men's basketball programs.

The investigation concerns roughly 10 years of alleged rules violations, according to Yahoo! Sports. These violations revolve around improper and extra benefits as well as academic violations. The men's basketball program is considered the more serious offender, according to the report.

Syracuse is scheduled to appear in front of the NCAA's committee on infractions Oct. 30-31, the Post-Standard reported. A hearing with the committee regarding infractions only occurs when level 1 or level 2 violations are involved. The NCAA defines a level 2 violation as "a violation that seriously undermines or threatens the integrity of any of the NCAA enduring values" and a level 1 violation as "a violation that provides or is intended to provide a minimal to significant recruiting, competitive or other advantage."

An investigation of this scope has the potential to severely damage Syracuse's basketball program as well as longtime coach Jim Boeheim's legacy.
