Brad Pitt is speaking out on gun rights, revealing that he was a gun owner since he was 6-years-old.

"There's a rite of passage where I grew up of inheriting your ancestors' weapons," Pitt tells Radio Times magazine. "My brother got my dad's. I got my grandfather's shotgun when I was in kindergarten."

Pitt, who is a father of 6 and recently married actress Angelina Jolie, says he got his first shotgun at age six and fired his first handgun at age 8.

"The positive is that my father instilled in me a profound and deep respect for the weapon," Pitt tells Fox News

The Hollywood heartthrob is relaying his love for guns on to his son.

He brought his 13-year-old son, Maddox, on set with him for his new World War II movie "Fury" where Pitt stars as commander of a Sherman tank crew during the Allies' final push into Nazi Germany. Pitt tells New Zealand Herald his son is so knowledgable about tanks he was asking Maddox questions when preparing for his part.

"He has an extensive knowledge developed on his own since he was young," Pitt tells NH Herald about Maddox.
