The Queen of Soul is at it again

The 72-year-old musical diva Aretha Franklin is taking on one of pop's newest stars, Adele, for her upcoming album, "Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics," ABC News reported on Tuesday.

Released Monday, Franklin's cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" dons a faster melody and includes a mash-up of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's classic Motown hit, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."

"Rolling in the Deep" is just one of a collection of covers on the album, produced by Clive Davis, Andre 3000, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. The "Respect" singer also takes on "At Last" by Etta James, Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," "People" by Barbra Streisand, Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U," and "No One" by Alicia Keys.

Franklin has not been in the studio with Clive Davis since 1998's "A Rose is Still a Rose," according to The New York Daily News.

"Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics" is due out Oct. 21, but it will just miss the cut off deadline for the 2015 Grammy Awards.

Adele is rumored to drop a new album in 2015 entitled "25" after taking time off to undergo surgery on her vocal cords in 2011 and to give birth to son Angelo a year later in 2012.
