"NCIS" appeared to open a door for a Cote de Pablo/Ziva David return in its season premiere. The chances of a guest appearance don't appear imminent on CBS's top-rated show, but de Pablo soon will return to the network in a new miniseries "The Dovekeepers."

The Chilean-American actress appeared with executive producer Roma Downey and co-star Rachel Brosnahan in a short, on-set video from the set in Malta.

"I'm Cote de Pablo, back again on CBS," she said as she popped into the video.

The miniseries adapts Alice Hoffman's historical novel about four women in ancient Israel whose lives cross paths in Masada in 70 C.E. (A.D.) Based on a true story, 900 Jews who fled to the mountain in the Judean desert after the Romans forced them from Jerusalem.

De Pablo plays Shirah, who is a "sensual, mysterious and fiercely independent single mother with uncanny insights and a quiet, mysterious power," according to CBS. Many call her the "Witch of Moab" because she practices forbidden magic. Those in need still will seek her out for her knowledge of herbal remedies and generous spirit.

Mega producer Mark Burnett, the man behind "The Bible" miniseries, will serve as executive produce with Downey for the four-hour event series. The miniseries also stars Kathryn Prescott and Diego Boneta.

"Mark and I are absolutely thrilled to finally see Alice Hoffman's beautiful story come to life," Downey said. "This is a remarkable opportunity to see these wonderful actors bring their unique gifts to these significant rolls. We look forward to sharing this epic television event with the CBS audience."

"NCIS" showrunner Gary Glasberg was "thrilled" to hear about de Pablo's new gig and insisted "no bad blood" existed between her and the show, according to TVLine.

"The Dovekeepers" will air next 2015.
