Amazon's lead of digital music and video streaming business, Bill Carr, announced his departure from the company by the end of this year.

Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce giant, is losing one of its top leaders who helped build the company as a competitive entity in the media streaming business. Bill Carr, head of Amazon's digital-music and video-streaming business, who served the e-commerce giant for fifteen long years, has internally confirmed his departure from the company by the end of this year.

The 47-year-old Amazon veteran has currently no jobs lined up but has immediate plans of spending time with family after his exit, a company's spokeswoman confirmed to the Wall Street Journal, Wednesday. Sally Fouts, the company's spokeswoman declined to share further details about Carr's future plans.

Carr has massively contributed toward the success of Amazon in the last fifteen years. The VP of Amazon's media business expanded the company's offerings in digital content and streaming media, which includes the launch of unlimited streaming-music service that competes with giants like Spotify and Pandora. The online media streaming services are a part of Amazon Prime, company's premium membership service for $99 a year that gives extra benefits such as free two-day shipping on a select range among other things.

Carr built Amazon as a strong competitor to Netflix and Hulu in the online video streaming sector by closing deals with Viacom and others for exclusive content. Carr's role was instrumental in the creation of original programs like "Alpha House," "Beats" among others, WSJ reports.

Carr was promoted as the VP of media services at Amazon in 2005 after he was hired as a DVD and video product manager in 1999, says his profile on LinkedIn's professional network. His previous experiences include VP of marketing at a startup for providing managed services for financial data, Evare, and an account executive at Procter and Gamble, Variety reveals.

Recently, Google X director and Glass head Babak Parviz joined Amazon but details of his job profile remain unknown.
