Bill Hader returns to his old stomping ground at Studio 8H to host "Saturday Night Live."

Hader starred on "SNL" from 2005 to 2013. He made two brief appearances after he left the show, one for Seth Meyers' final show in February, and again when Andy Samberg hosted the season finale in May. Hader will host on Oct. 11 with Irish singer Hozier as the musical guest.

The comedian left the show in memorable fashion. Hader made his last appearance on Weekend Update as his most renowned character, Stefon. He didn't think Meyers appreciated his advice on where New York City tourists should visit that summer and told the anchor, "I've met someone else, and he's a lot like you, except he likes me for me, and we are getting married," before he rushed off stage.

Meyers tried to go on with the news, but his former co-anchor Amy Poehler encouraged him to go after Stefon. He rushed into the wedding chapel just before Stefon tried to marry CNN's Anderson Cooper.

The character of Stefon first appeared in a sketch opposite host Ben Affleck in 2008. Hader admits the character didn't work until he cozied up to Meyers at the Update desk.

"It barely worked as a sketch with Ben Affleck. It was a long walk to get to what the sketch was about," Hader said on "Late Night with Seth Meyers."

"Saturday Night Live" enters its 40th season on Sept. 27. "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Chris Pratt will host with musical guest Ariana Grande.
