"Orange is the New Black" writer Lauren Morelli is divorcing her husband months after coming out as gay, TMZ reports. In an essay for PolicyMic, Morelli said writing for the show forced her to question her own sexuality. She is now dating "Orange" cast member Samira Wiley, who plays gay inmate Poussey.

According to TMZ, the divorce is amicable and Morelli walked away with the apartment, her sapphire engagement ring and a Lexus. Her husband of two years, Steve Basilone, got the Mazda hatchback.

Morelli started writing for the Netflix show five months after she got married and said she quickly realized that she was a lesbian.

"I realized I was gay in fall 2012, one of my first days on the set," she wrote. "I am now out to all my family, my friends, and most of my co-workers on 'Orange.'"

Morelli explained that when she started to write for the main character Piper, who is in a love triangle with her fiancé and ex-girlfriend, she started to see herself in the character.

"I found a mouthpiece for my own desires and a glimmer of what future could look like," Morelli wrote in her PolicyMic essay.

"It was in the writers' room that I came into myself, surrounded by unconditional love and teasing when I needed it," she continued. "I went through it all on set: I fell in love with a woman, and I watched my life play out on screen."

The second season of "Orange is the New Black" premiered on Netflix in June, with the third season slated for 2015.
