The final score of San Francisco's win against the Dallas Cowboys doesn't tell the whole story.  The 49ers looked like Super Bowl contenders, heading into halftime with a 28-3 lead before riding out the game to a 28-17 win.  Quarterback Colin Kaepernick answered his preseason critics with a 201-yard and two-touchdown game, and tailback Frank Gore started the season strong with 66 rushing yards on 16 carries.

"He looks good, and he looks that way every year," 49ers running backs coach Tom Rathman said, via ESPN.  "It's hard to go through a whole season and take the pounding and not having help.  Gosh, if anybody can do it, it would be Frank Gore."

Chicago, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back from a surprising 23-20 loss at home to the Buffalo Bills.  Quarterback Jay Cutler played well - 349 yards and two touchdonws - but turned the ball over twice, including one critical interception in the fourth quarter with the game tied.

Despite Cutler again living up to his reputation for not taking care of the ball, second-year Bears coach Marc Trestman didn't blame Cutler for the loss.

"I've seen Jay in my time here do a lot of the right things with the football," said Trestman.  "I'm disappointed for the team and I see how hard he works.  ... He lost himself for a minute and made a decision that I know we've seen other great quarterbacks make and he certainly made it there."
