A Kickstarter campaign has begun for the Movpak, an electric skateboard that folds into a full-sized backpack.

The skateboard is designed to help people easily and quickly get to work in that last stretch between getting off the bus or subway and walking to the office, as well as avoid paying for a cab, according to TechCrunch.

Featuring a top speed of 15 miles per hour and a range of 9 miles, Movpak has the potential to serve as an alternative to taking your bicycle to work.

Ivo, Machado, co-founder of Movpak, designed the skateboard as a compact solution for traveling that people could bring with them on a train or a bus, Gizmodo reported. The product comes with a metal handle on top that the user can extend to pull around like a luggage bag, along with four skateboard wheels at the bottom.

The board, backpack, battery and included hardware combined weigh 17 pounds. Users can fit a 15-inch laptop in the backpack's padded pouch, and additional pockets and zippers are available for storing work necessities and clothes.

The skateboard's battery takes two hours to be fully recharged, TechCrunch reported. The battery has also been designed for people to use for charging phones and other devices.

Users can make the skateboard travel faster by pulling the trigger back, and pushing the trigger forward slows the board down, Gizmodo reported. The controller comes with a button that can switch the board into reverse.

Earlier backers will be able to get discounts of up to $1,000 for the Movpak. The company plans to sell the skateboard for $2,000, which is almost the same price as the Boosted Board and other electric skateboards. The goal for Movpak is to raise $100,000 before making the skateboard available to customers in early April.
