A 20-year-old Georgia man’s coming out story went viral after he posted a video of a staged “intervention” that quickly went wrong.

Daniel Ashley Pierce came out as gay in October 2013, but it wasn’t until Wednesday that his family decided to state their thoughts on his sexuality, according to the Huffington Post.

"Their reaction was pretty much expected [once] I chose to leave instead of pray because they have always been very vocal about not supporting the gay lifestyle," he told HuffPost. "My [stepmother's] reaction was the most surprising and hurtful."

Pierce reportedly wanted to document the conversation with his family out of fear something would happen to him. Pierce claimed his father, stepmother and grandparents were in attendance of the “intervention.”

While the video doesn’t show an of his family member’s faces, you can hear people tell Pierce his sexuality is a choice and they would not condone his lifestyle.

"No, you can believe that if you want to," a woman said in the vido, “but I believe in the word of God, and God creates nobody that way. It's a path that you have chosen to choose. ... You go by all the scientific stuff you want to. I'm going by the word of God."

At one point during the clip, the stepmother tells Pierce that he had to leave the house as they can't accept his homosexuality. One woman goes on to say that she knows gay people, but wouldn’t accept a gay person living in her home.

"You're full of s**t," the stepmother told Pierce. "You told me on the phone that you made that choice. You know you wasn't born that way. You know damn good and well you made that choice. You know that [your father] has done everything he can to raise you. ... He didn't need to blame himself."

Violence quickly erupts as the stepmother reportedly starts hitting Pierce while a man yells, “You’re a damn qu***r,” in the background. You can listen to the confrontation in the video below.

Pierce has since left his parents’ home, but multiple outlets picked up his story. A GoFundMe campaign was set up to help Pierce with living expenses, which has since raised $59,690.
