A University of Montana student who disappeared over a week ago was found dead Thursday in Custer County, Idaho, authorities said.

Lucius Robbi and his car were found Thursday evening in a thick patch of trees by a turnoff near Stanley Lake, the Custer County Sheriff's Office told KPAX News. Police said the 21-year-old died of blunt force trauma to the head resulting from a car accident.

Robbi was reported missing over 10 days ago when he failed to show up for student orientation at the University of Montana. He left California and was passing through Idaho when his car somehow went down a 60 foot embankment and struck several pine trees, the station reported.

The wreck was found when a private helicopter hired by his family spotted a kayak that was on top of Robbi's car through the trees. Before Thursday the area had not been searched. It was only this week that authorities narrowed the search to the Montana-Idaho border near U.S. Highway 93.

"The family of Lucius Robbi wants to thank all of the many friends who came together to search for him," reads a Facebook message dedicated to Robbi. "You were all amazing, and the overwhelming outpouring of love and the heroic effort you made to find Lucius created a bond between you and all of us that will connect us forever."

Robbi had a love for hiking and taking back roads, his family told KPAX News. He was working at the Cascade Raft and Kayak for the summer, according to KTVB.
